Twas one of the days when the earth wakes up just perfect, one of those days when the earth wakes up silent and we couldn't be sorry to leave when we were leaving so full of cheer. Yeah, it would be good to get home though we'd be taking a different road. A dream was point out the safe way back east much as a comet had led us safely here the night before, the night I thought I had fallen asleep as a million starts up in the sky turned into a million silver singing stereos. They knew a place wouldn't we like to go. They knew just why we were here. All kinds of people were drawing near.

I danced with a shepherd, I danced with a sheep, I sang with a dog and never wanted to sleep. It was the best of parties, the best of shows. Everyone was glad we came. A kind new friend asked, "How'd you get here, Balthazar?" "Y'know, I followed the star." It didn't matter if you didn't know the words. Some sang like frogs and some sang like birds like in that promised land where everyone's in tune, and the air was perfect June. And then it was our turn, and our hearts did burn. Sure, we had the gold and frankincense and myrrh, but we wanted to be the gifts. We wanted to be the songs when the songs are getting sung all night long. The best thing is to be a gift, the best thing is to be a song, when the songs are getting sung all night long.
